At what age can my student start classes?
Students are able to start the classroom portion at exactly 15 and 5 months old. We can not take paperwork any sooner.
Who has to take driver's education in the state of Ohio?
As of September 30, 2025, anyone under the age of 21 years old must complete 24 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind the wheel instruction with an Ohio approved driving school. The student must also complete 50 hours(10 hours minimum of night time driving) of behind the wheel training with a parent/legal guardian, custodian, or responsible adult.
How much does the full course cost? When do we have to pay in full?
For the full course it is $625. We do not ask for the payment in full when they start class. We ask for a $50 deposit. You can make as many payments as you need to, it just has to be at a $0 balance when they are eligible to get on the waitlist for the driving portion.
Is there a time limit to have the course competed by?
Students need to be completed with the whole program within 6 months of the start of their first class. A student should get on the waitlist 60 days before their deadline. If there is a mitigating circumstance please call our office to see about getting the time extended.
Does a student have to have their temporary permit in order to start your classes?
A student does not have to have their temporary permit to start the classroom portion. A student must have a valid temporary permit in order to get on the waitlist for the behind the wheel lessons. Keep in mind that if a student is under the age of 18 and it is their first set of temporary permits, they must hold their temporary permit for 6 months.

How does a student get their temporary permit?
A student has the option to take the temporary permit test online through the Ohio BMV or can go to a local BMV to take the temporary permit test. If you take the temporary permit test online you MUST go into your local BMV and purchase the ID card BEFORE your temporary permit is valid.
Do we have to take the classes in order?
Students do not have to take the classes in numerical order. Students must get one of each 12 classes.
Are we able to take classes online and in person?
Yes, students are able to take classes both in person and online. Students are not able to overlap class times.
Where can we find the calendar for zoom and in person classes?
Calendars are updated on our website on a monthly basis. Please go to www.dnddrivingschools.com, and in the center of the home screen you will see a yellow button that says “Class Schedule”. We also have hard copies of the calendars at our Kettering Office on Wilmington Pike.
How do I sign up to take my written exam once I am completed with all 12 classes?
Once a student is completed with all 12 classes and they are accounted for, they are more than welcome to take their final exam in person at our Kettering Office or online through zoom. If a student would like to take their final exam in person, please call our Office for the walk in hours. If a student would like to take their test via zoom, just send an email to dnddriving@aol.com and we will reply back with the testing dates and times.
How long is the waitlist for the behind the wheel lessons?
There are numerous factors that go into how long a wait is for a student. It will depend on the time of year, the students availability, and our instructors availability. For after school hours or weekends it is about a 6-8 week wait. During the school year if a student is available during the school day it could be sooner. Summertime is the busiest time of the year so wait times are longer.
How do we schedule the behind the wheel lessons?
Once the student has been placed on our behind the wheel wait list and they are next or we have a cancellation, we will call to schedule the drives. We usually schedule the first lesson, see what the instructor's feedback was and then proceed to schedule the next lessons. We do not schedule any drives via email.
Are drive times during the day excused from school?
Effective September 30, 2025, high school students will now be permitted excused absences from school for the sole purpose of attending a driver education course, up to a maximum of eight hours(no more than two hours per a day for up to four non consecutive days). Students will be required to complete any missed classroom assignments.
Do you pick up for the behind the wheel lessons?
We pick up from home, work, or school as long as it is in the same area. In some circumstances we may have you pick up and drop off from a mutually agreed up location if you do not live in an area we service.
How do I cancel a behind the wheel lesson?
To cancel a behind the wheel lesson you will need to call our office at 937-294-7206. If it is AFTER HOURS, there are 2 cell phone numbers on the voicemail that you can call or text.
How many hours of driving does a student have to have with a parent or legal guardian before starting the behind the wheel lessons?
We have no driving experience requirement to start the behind the wheel lessons. We do require a minimum of 25-30 hours of on road driving experience before we will schedule a student’s third and fourth behind the wheel lessons. It is a good idea to practice what your student was taught after each lesson to help them progress.
How many hours does a student have to drive with a parent or legal guardian?
The State of Ohio requires that a student has a minimum of 50 hours of behind the wheel training, 10 hours of night time driving, before they are allowed to test for the license.
What do you go over on each behind the wheel lesson?
Lesson 1: Introduction to the vehicle, turns, lane changes, lane position, introduction to backing/maneuverability, and where to stop at intersections
Lesson 2: Introduction to different parking situations, traffic flow, 3-point turns, 2-point turns, round abouts, intersections with lights, lane changes in traffic
Lesson 3: Introduction to the highway, review maneuverability, decision making, and review students weaknesses from lessons 1 and Lesson 2
Lesson 4: Introduction to one way streets, turning left on red, more difficult and unusual intersections, parallel parking, and reviewing any weaknesses from lessons 1-3, reviewing maneuverability
Please note that this is a basic outline for the behind the wheel lessons. They are subject to change depending on a student’s experience level, weather conditions, and other factors.
How do we get the certificate of completion?
Once the student has completed all the requirements for the 32 Hour Course you can call our office about the certificate of completion or once we have received all the documentation we will call you. If you would like to pick up the certificate before we call you, please call the office during our regular business hours.
How do we schedule the license test with the BMV?
To schedule the driving test your student must be completed and receive their certificate of completion. Once you have the certificate of completion you will go to www.ohiodrivingtest.com. You will click “Guest Login’, and then fill out the information under the “Driver License” or “Personal Information” tab. DO NOT click “Driver Exam Scheduling”. Once you log in, select the county that you want to test at. You can go anywhere in the state of Ohio. Beware that there are “Third Party” testing facilities that charge for the exam. The local exam stations at Huber Heights and Xenia do not charge.
What does my student need to take with them for the license test?
In order for someone under the age of 18 to take their license test they must have: their temporary permit, certificate of completion from D&D Driving School, their 50 hour affidavit form logged and NOTARIZED, parent or legal guardian, a licensed driver, a properly insured vehicle capable of passing vehicle inspection, you must have the color, year, make, model, and license plate number of the car you are testing in.
If you would like your license to meet the Federal “Real I.D’ requirements, there are additional documents you will need to take.
